<span style="color: orange; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Flower pots

<span style="color: orange; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Shade

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Dogs need shade in the garden, so plant a tree or dense bush. You will have to protect the young plant while growing or the dog may break it.

<span style="color: orange; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Aloe Vera, or any aloe.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Aloes are a hardy plant that stands up well to dogs. Its spiky leaves & bitter taste protect it. They will survive without watering. Aloe is said to have healing properties for wounds & minor abrasions, but the best use is for discouraging chewing. If your dog is chewing something he shouldn't - his bed, for example - cut a small piece of aloe leaf and rub the juice on the bed. The bitter taste will repulse the dog. You can rub it on the dog's paw if he is chewing his paw.

<span style="color: orange; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Vegetables

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Dogs may dig up vegetables, even root vegetables like potatoes and carrots. The only solution may be to fence off the veg patch. We had borrowed a digital camera from a friend to take some pictures of my daughter to put on the computer and send to relatives. It's the kind of digital camera that stores the photos directly onto floppy diskettes. My husband reached into a brand-new box of floppy diskettes we had just bought and started to take photos of my daughter. She posed in different areas, and in one shot sat on the floor by our bar. This area was the place our little female fox terrier named "Sister" had her bed and always slept. It was her favorite place. We had to have Sister put to sleep in March, 2000. We all shouted, "What?!" We just took that photo on a new disk and no one could have put the word "Sister" on that file! It defied explanation, and all three of us witnessed it.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We did not know what we would find when we opened the file! The professor dies and the dog waits for him for the rest of his life.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
Based on a true story from Japan, Hachiko Monogatari (literally “The Tale of Hachiko”) is a moving film about loyalty and the rare, invincible bonds that occasionally form almost instantaneously in the most unlikely places.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

In the modern day, a class full of young students are giving oral presentations about personal heroes. A boy named Ronnie (Kevin DeCoste) stands up and begins to tell of 'Hachiko', his grandfather's dog. Years before, an Akita puppy is sent from Japan to the United States, but his cage falls off the baggage cart at an American train station, where he is found by college professor Parker Wilson (Richard Gere). Parker is instantly captivated by the dog. When Carl (Jason Alexander), the station controller, refuses to take him, Parker takes the puppy home overnight. His wife Cate (Joan Allen) is insistent about not keeping the puppy.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The next day Parker expects that someone will have contacted the train station, but no one has. He sneaks the pup onto the train and takes him to work, where a Japanese college professor, Ken (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), translates the symbol on the pup's collar as 'Hachi', Japanese for 'good fortune', and the number 8. Parker decides to call the dog 'Hachi'. Ken points out that perhaps the two are meant to be together. Parker attempts to play fetch with Hachi, but he refuses to join in. Meanwhile Cate receives a call about someone wanting to adopt Hachi. After seeing how close her husband has come to Hachi, however, Cate tells the caller that Hachi has already been adopted.
Parker, however, is still mystified by Hachi's refusal to do normal, dog-like things like chase and retrieve a ball. Ken advises him that Hachi will only bring him the ball for a special reason. One morning, Parker leaves for work and Hachi sneaks out and follows him to the train station, where he refuses to leave until Parker walks him home. That afternoon, Hachi sneaks out again and walks to the train station, waiting patiently for Parker's train to come in. Eventually Parker relents and walks Hachi to the station every morning, where he leaves on the train. Hachi leaves after Parker's safe departure, but comes back in the afternoon to see his master's train arrive and walk with him home again. This continues for some time, until one afternoon Parker attempts to leave, but Hachi barks and refuses to go with him. Parker eventually leaves without him, but Hachi chases him, holding his ball. Parker is surprised but pleased that Hachi is finally willing to play fetch the ball with him. Worried that he will be late for the college, Professor Parker leaves on the train despite Hachi barking at him. At work that day Parker, still holding Hachi's ball, is teaching his music class when he suddenly suffers a fatal heart attack.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">At the train station, Hachi waits patiently as the train arrives, but there is no sign of Parker. He remains, lying in the snow, for several hours, until Parker's son-in-law Michael (Ronnie Sublett) comes to collect him. The next day, Hachi returns to the station and waits, remaining all day and all night. As time passes, Cate sells the house and Hachi is sent to live with her daughter Andy (Sarah Roemer), Michael, and their new baby Ronnie. However, at the first opportunity, he escapes and eventually finds his way back to his old house and then to the train station, where he sits at his usual spot, eating hot dogs given to him by Jasjeet (Erick Avari), a local vendor. Andy arrives soon after and takes him home, but lets him out the next day to return to the station.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
For the next nine years, Hachi waits for his owner. His loyalty is profiled in the local newspaper. Years after Parker's death, Cate comes back to visit Parker's grave when she catches sight of Hachi, now old and achy, waiting at the station. She gets emotional and sits next to Hachi until the next train comes. Hachi returns to the train station late at night and closes his eyes for the last time. Then, Parker walks out of the station and greets him as if nothing has changed at all, and the two reunite as their spirits rise up to Heaven to be together forever.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
Ronnie's story has clearly moved the class, with some holding back tears. Children like to play with dogs, but
do supervise this in case either the child or the puppy gets hurt. A toddler may
poke a dog in the eye, stand on it, pull its tail or pick it up by the lips. A
dog may knock over a tiny tot. The pups nails or tiny teeth may hurt the child.
If a dog feels threatened, tormented, frightened, or cornered he will defend
himself.

We need to teach our children how to treat a dog.
If we can't train the dog, we can train the child! Training a dog to respect a
child can be difficult as the dog may see the child as a playmate or underling,
and not "the master."

Children need to be taught never to
touch strange dogs, even if they are wagging their tails. Tail-wagging can mean
the dog is not sure whether to attack or be friendly. Kids should not even look
a strange dog in the eye, as the dog may see this as a challenge. They should
never run away from, or past a dog, but walk slowly or stand their ground. Dogs
chase runners and fast moving things like bicycles. High pitched screaming or
squealing can alarm the dog and make it think it’s under attack. Instead, the
children should call the dog and let the dog be the one to approach them. The
dog is then showing submission.

Kids shouldn’t touch a dog’s toy, bone or food, especially
when he is eating. They should respect a dog’s privacy when he is in his
kennel. Puppies need lots of naps during the day to give their body time to
grow.

Train children to use two hands when
picking up a puppy. Picking him up by the scruff of the neck will hurt him. Kids
must not touch a strange dog, even if it is behind a fence. They must not grab a
dog from behind or while sleeping. Don’t give a dog a fright or it may give you
a fright! Bitches with puppies are especially fierce in order to defend their
young. God has given them this instinct to ensure the survival of the species. If a dog threatens kids, tell them to throw something like a
lunch box or toy to the side of the dog to distract it. (They are not to throw
it AT the dog or threaten it). They can protect their face with a bag or
jacket.

Once the dog and child understand each
other, they will probably become the best of friends. Lonely children can
benefit from having a dog to confide in. Dogs keep secrets! Friends may come and
go, but the dog always there, and loves us no matter what everyone else thinks
of us. A dog can help a child through a stressful change, like moving house or
changing school. It gives stability to life. The love that a dog can bestow on a
child gives a child a positive self-image, and can help to ward off depression
and anxiety. Traumatised children can allow themselves to express love and
affection to an animal.

A child who is

that the child will learn that a dog can be "man's best friend."
